Across 13 years in industry, Carl Nawagamuwa’s formative years were spent agency side at the now retired GroupM agency MEC in the UK. He joined MEC in 2005 and spent the next 8 years in traditional and digital media buying roles, the last of which was as the Head of Digital Trading. This time spent in agency has given him a great appreciation for agencies and a broad media view beyond digital. In 2013, he embarked on a new role with Xaxis focused on growing Xaxis TV across APAC. The role was based in Singapore with significant time spent in China, Australia and SEA in a product focused role evangelising about the benefits of online video.

After 10 years within GroupM, Carl wanted to learn in a different environment and took on a new challenge with Amobee. As VP of SEA across Amobee’s platform and media business over the next 18 months, he learnt a great deal about running and launching products in SEA and also a lot about his own strengths and development areas as a leader.

For the past 3 and a half years, Carl has been at Google focused on its ad tech products (Google Marketing Platform formerly DoubleClick) as a leader for the GMP business for SEA. He was excited at the SEA vision for GMP, which is to grow from a regionally based SEA team into local markets with locally based business across SEA. Since 2016, he is proud to have been part of a business that has tripled in size and today he focuses on growing our locally based GMP business in SEA. Google has local GMP teams in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines and hope to have local representation in all SEA markets by the end of 2020.
