MICHAEL BEECROFT

Regional Board Member, IAB SEA+India

Chief Investment Officer, APAC, Mindshare

Michael stands at the forefront of modern media investment management in Asia Pacific. He has deep working knowledge and experience, matched only by his passion for understanding and working with local market teams. He started his career in London as a UK TV Buyer and after rising through the ladder of a couple of agencies, he joined MEC at its conception early in 2002. He initially specialized in the entertainment category, managing clients in the likes of 20Th Fox, UIP (United International Pictures – Universal, DreamWorks, and Paramount), Lionsgate Pictures, and Nintendo over the following few years. But after progressing through the agency ranks, he eventually moved away from traditional media buying and client leadership, settling into the new practice of digital investment management, heading for the UK and joining MEC’s executive board. This was a hugely exciting period, where along with leadership and from other group companies and publishers, unprecedented success was achieved in creating an extremely vibrant, healthy, and competitive digital ecosystem.

In 2011 at MEC, Michael was promoted to Global Head of Digital Trading, tasked with translating the same successful approach to other parts of the world. Whilst the scope of a global remit was hugely exhilarating, he did miss being more closely connected to and involved in on-the-ground projects and initiatives. So in 2013, Stephen Li (now CEO of OMD APAC) convinced Michael that APAC offered the best of both worlds and that’s where he should move next.

Michael subsequently moved to Hong Kong as Chief Investment officer for MEC APAC and enjoyed every minute of it until its merger with Maxus to become Wavemaker last year. The current leg of his journey brings him and his family to Singapore as the Chief Investment Officer of Mindshare APAC.
