Local Research: Attitudes in Malaysia to saving, spending, shopping and sustainability.

The Carousell Media Group and the IAB SEA+India have released a new report on Attitudes in Malaysia to saving, spending, shopping and sustainability. More than 22,000 consumers were surveyed and some of the highlights are as follows:

  • 72% of respondents are Millenial and Generation Z
  • incomes are rising
  • loans over the past year have been mainly to purchase a motor vehicle or other mode of transport
  • stocks and crypto are the preferred current investments
  • property and stocks are favoured for future investments
  • 60% of respondents said they spend more time online than in the previous 12 months, mainly on streaming mainstream content, online supermarket shopping, ordering in meals; and in online learning
  • 62% stream content to a mobile device
  • 91% of respondents subscribe to Netflix
  • half of respondents plan on purchasing luxury items over the next 12 months
  • Mudah is the Carousell recommerce platform in Malaysia and 61% of respondents have sold an item on it over the past 12 months
  • half of respondents leverage Mudah as a main source of income or side income
  • 57% of respondents shop on Mudah because of climate change concerns and to reduce their environmental footprint.

 

 

The Carousell Media Group and the IAB SEA+India carried out this research project in five countries in total, generating a Local Report for each country and a Regional Report summarising and comparing the results across each country.
